Video : A Brief Primer on Hammock Suspension, Part II : cord

It only took about six different trips out to the city park to get all the shots I wanted, but I got it all and had an edit-fest.
These two videos go through some techniques useful in a cord-based suspension.

Topics covered in the first video include

    • attaching cord to hammock
    • attaching cord to webbing
    • tie-off using a buntline hitch (what WBG recommends for his cord-based BB)
    • garda hitch
    • Marlinspike hitch

The second video completes the discussion by talking about
    • Trucker's hitch
    • sliding ring adjustment
    • structural ridgeline
    • single line suspension

The main thing I want to illustrate is that with only a smattering of knot smarts one can assemble a cord-based suspension that is considerably lighter and less bulky than webbing, but very nearly as easy-to-use and flexible. Even with mittens on.

Wow... That's an extremely well-produced series Grizz.

Thanks for your efforts. This will make a wonderful reference for all forum members, both new and well-versed.

Yeah, thanks Grizz! I really appreciate your efforts here. Now I have to go try out a couple of these systems!

Nice stuff Grizz. Almost makes me want to play around with the cordage again.

A minor point which I have found is that black lettering is not very effective against a multi-colored or patterned background. I had difficulty reading the resource notes at the end. For those of you making videos with overlaid texts use something other than black lettering to highlight the contrast. As I learned in my years as a stage prop toadie... black disappears.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Kudos to yudos

This is an invaluable overview of the various hitching strategies. Should be how every hammock newbie spends their first 20 minutes learning about hammock hanging.

Suggestion: it would be nice to have an index in your notes about what timepoints the various techniques are illustrated at. I can see wanting to go back and look at a particular technique without sitting through the whole vid.

    Again, nice work.

    Rev, Kurt-
thanks for the suggestions. I haven't figured out whether youtube allows one to replace one version of the video for another---I tried doing that when the youtube automated digital rights police busted me for using the audio of "Bridge over Troubled Water" that I lifted from youtube...

but I ought to be able to put this information in the notes section of the video's page.

    I'm on it...
