Be careful. Several people have had the material tear when the edges are not hemmed.

If you know for sure the two edges are factory selvage edges you should be able to get away with no hemming on the edges. The selvage is at least as strong as the fabric itself. If there is any doubt a simple rolled hem will do the trick.

    Regards,
The only thing I would add to this setup for ULTIMATE Flat Laying comfort is an thin inflatable pad for the pad sleeve - $25/$35 - helps a lot in the shoulder area for us wide-shouldered types! Would also drop the temp rating to single digits, IWG. Love this setup!

    Another Ultimate Comfort, BB Style
Hammock: Custom Dbl Warbonnet Blackbird, 1.1 outer - Sportswear Nylon inner lining - $160
    Tarp: CCS 10x12 - $100
Bottom Insulation: Jacks 'R' Better Katahdin, modified w/tabs for UQ use- $340
Suspension: Included with hammock - $0

$600 Total - this is my current setup, very close to my Mt. Rogers setup, and how I normally roll when temps are below 40*. I add a Thermadrape ($10) if single digits are expected.

Substitute a Custom dbl Warbonnet Blackbird, 1.1 outer - silk inner lining and a modified Mt. Rogers for a UQ at $300, and this is how I will be rolling this weekend on the NCT.

Here's a couple of starter setups using under quilts instead of pads:

    Hammock Setups Under $400

Kickass Potomac under quilt - $180.00
    Speer Winter Tarp $107
    Skeeter Beeter Pro $58
20' Strapworks Simple Sling (cut in half for 2 x10' pieces) ~$15
    __________________________________________________ _______________

    Total: $360

Or replace the synthetic quilt for a down one for just a few $$$ more

    JRB Shenandoah $190

    Bringing the total to $370

Not trying to make the cheapest, but a good starter kit. In fact it was *my* first setup. I am going to add weights to my list as well.

Travel Hammock Ultralight (now Grand Trunk Ultra light)The $22 (12oz)
    Walmart blue ccf $10 (11oz)
    8x10 nylon tarp $40 (23oz)
    braided mason line $9 (1/4oz for 40ft)
    aluminum gutter nails 8) $5 (2oz for 4)

total cost: $86 (with 4 extra stakes and over 400ft of extra line)
    total weight: 48.25oz

upgrade to Equinox silnylon tarp for $40 more and 8oz less ($126 and 40.25oz)

You can usually pick up one on Whiteblaze or Ebay for about $100. It is a pretty complete system, all you need is a pad for cheap and you can upgrade to an underquilt later. If you buy one of the real cheap hammocks and tarps, you're just wasting money in my opinion, as you'll want to upgrade soon.
