    UQ Conundrum

Up until now the decision has been 20 deg for it's versatility.
I have not yet pulled the trigger, it's getting harder and harder to choose the vendor. And now I have an option:

Two separate UQ from top two vendors here

    Both top quality
    Both same price
    Zero is 3oz more

    Both full length
    Both 850 or better down
The zero is not weather resistant fabric or treated down

0deg used or 20 deg new.
What to do, what to do.

I made a PLUQ. This will be the only true UQ I buy. (famous last words?)

4season hiker with Long term AT aspirations, moving to New England. No idea where on east coast I will live 4 years from now. (Military)

    Thanks.

For me it all depends on how you sleep. I'm a cold sleeper so a pad with a 20* bag works great down to about 10* for me

Below 0* a 0* bag is fine but I haven't made the jump to under quilts yet but most likely would only go with a 20* quilt and under quilt. Mainly because I have the sleeping bags I could add in if it were colder for the occasion I'm in a colder climate than 10*.

I agree with the 20* UQ being the more versatile, but I'm not a cold sleeper. I've used my 20* Phoenix from 3 degrees up to 75 degrees.

    I agree on the 0* if you're truly a 4 season hiker.

    Thanks for your service BobbinHeadLodge.

As a 4 season hanger and long time New England Resident (Massachusetts) I can assure you the 0* TQ and UQ will get you the furthest mileage in my opinion. If you move here first and then decide to take on the AT, you can decide then, based on experience, what is going to work best for you.

Good luck in your decision and let us know what you decide.

    All the best!

I ran into this conundrum too.

Ended up going with a 0F 3/4 length UQ and a 20F TQ. They've work well so far, into the teens here in Oklahoma.

    Good luck deciding!

I thought I was doing fine with my WL 10 degree, waking up once in a while with a cold spot here or there. Using it from 18 degrees up to 50+ degrees. Then I got a 0 degree incubator. While it is a little harder to stuff it into the same size stuff sack the little bit of extra downyness is a dramatic difference for me.
