    Can't use down feathers

Got a good laugh reading a post on White Blaze. New hanger said they did not want to use down feather insulation because they are a vegan.

Alot of down comes from ducks raised and processed for their meat. How much, do not know. The down and feathers are a by product, like leather from cows killed for meat.

Everyone knows you don't get down off a goose, you get down off a horse.

Next there will be free-range down and gluten free down...

I'm far more worried about the impact of global warming and the resulting drought in California leading to a potentially devastating velcro crop drought. http://www.umbachconsulting.com/miscellany/velcro.html

I would bet that more harm comes to animals from the production of synthetic. Especially if down is a bybroduct of a seperate industry. Sheer and sheep many times, skin him only once.

I respect the vegan intent. To respect the animals is noble. At the same time, suggesting that collecting feathers that naturally fall (even sheep shearing inconveniences the sheep) is insensitive is a real stretch for me.

The real question could be, what are the conditions of the birds while their down is collected and, even more importantly, do they have regularly scheduled lunch breaks.

How many dinosaurs had to die to produce the oil the synthetic bags are made of.

If they are vegan then they shouldn't use down. Most are vegan because they don't want animals harvested in any way. I can respect the commitment to what they believe. It has to be hard to go without eggs and milk.
