Hi all found your page last week remembered my last camp out with the cacti and the rocks. That was a life time ago just finished my new gathered end hammock. It is all from materials on hand I had all the parts at home.
Materials list
11 feet of canvas light weight[ was Kayak cover now it does bother double duty got to love it]
Tarp is recycled from one of the failed tents that gets left out on our property for parts.
Assorted nylon straps, two rings for adjustment on one side 1/8 braided nylon rope with slider knots for adjustments is used for the ridge line.
Recycled military bug netting very large with make a smaller one to fit the hammock.
The hammock slides into a convertible pant leg for snake skin tight fit but just tied it to one side of the with the carabener and 4" strap sticking out you secure that side and just pull and out it comes ridge line is attached adjust and put on tarp will use marlin spike knot to attach the tarp or bug netting no biggy just working with what I have if weight becomes a issue I will make one out a sheet folded in half and use poly 1' strapping and no hard ware
It has been in the low 30's out here at night will bee trying real soon I am going to use air pad and sleeping bag.
It is not the lightest every made but all I have to do is take it out of the car and set up.
Out here in socal our forest are chapparal and cacti and rocks .
It will be good to get above it all.
I will do fallow up post with pictures and review if favorable will think of making bridge hammock.
And if I am not in my hammock my kayak can be.
