Quick Set-Up System: Is it worth the weight?

So, I have been using a quick setup system I learned on YouTube or somewhere.

I have a HH with tree straps.

I use the 2 climbing rings and a biner system for each end to create a fast, easilty adjustable setup.

I did watch the HH video where they simply use a lashing, which I have not tried yet.

So, this year, I want to cut some pack weight. Not trying to go ultralight, just lighter.

I am interested to hear everyone's thoughts.

Keep the speed and easy adjustability

    or

    drop the weight?

I just switched from biners and rings to whoopies and it knocked off about 4 oz. Adjustability is just as easy, if not more so.

That includes going to 6 ft. tree straps vs. the stock HH 4fts. and using an aluminum toggle and the marlin spike hitch. I just run the tree strap through its own loop, but I plan to get some dutch clips when I get a little more cash flow action. Just a little easier still, and they're only about .5oz for the pair so I'd still be coming out 3.5 ozs lighter in the end. Me likey.

    Why is that your goal?

I did the same thing as Aluminumbling along time ago. I read somewhere that the compression between the SMC descending rings will have adverse affects on the rope over time. I am assuming this is your setup below:

You should be able to replace the stock suspension with whoopies.
There are two videos on this page that explain it.

    Very fast and light.

Drop the weight and bulk. There are light weight options that are quick and easy.

I went initially to what you described on the biner and rings set for my HH. I have since changed over to two rings on an amsteel continuous loop on each end of my hammock. Running the straps through the rings like you run the stock rope through the rings now (in a different direction of course). Allowed me to lose the biner for a pretty much break even proposition on weight but a personal favorite for set up. Easy up and down and quick.

I managed to save more in weight on the tarp, going from a HH Hex with tieouts at just over 24 ozs. to a HG Cuben w/ doors and tieouts at just over 8 ozs. YMMV

So I have watched a few videos on whoopie slings. It has really peaked my interest. Not so much for the weight savings (although that is important) but it seems like the whoopies will pack smaller than the standard HH suspension.

Yeah....... I can definitely see myself making the transistion in the future.

As with all decisions, there are tradeoffs.
