    Backup rope?

Other than bear bag cord, pull outs, ridgeline, guy lines, and suspension; what kind of backup rope do you carry, how much, and for what reasons? I carry about 20 ft of zing it and amsteel. Not sure if it's necessary, but I do. Thanks for your input.

I carry some extra Zing-It, but stick to finished Amsteel products like dogbones, continuous loops and soft shackles. I left my whoopies at home once and was able to hang using just that stuff.

I like to have some extra cordage on me. Just seems to be a nice "in case of" item. I have about 50ft of paracord in a plastic bottle I carry. I got the paracord because it was cheap.

I don't have any plans to use it for suspension systems or climbing. Just cordage.

I guess if it was an emergency situation, I could make a 3 strand braid and have about 15 ft of something strong enough for some application requiring strength.

It is a "comfort" item for me......which is how I justify the extra weight.

6' amsteel dogbone. Can extend tree straps, hang pack, hang my tea candle lantern. Multiple uses. Also two zing it loops. Just had some leftover and tied them in a loop.

a feller NEVER KNOWS when he/she will knead an extra piece of string

    string of ALL SIZES

    skinny string > fat string

    fishing string > tow ropes

depending on the activity, i carry extra string, of an appropriate size

roll it up, wrap it around your staff, coil it up & stow it in your pack, bundle it up in the pick-up tool box

kinda like TAPE OF THE DUCT, if you don't have any w/ you, YOU WILL WISH YOU DID

BTW, i've started carrying RESCUE TAPE(look it up), for most activities

back to the OP, YES I CARRY EXTRA STRING

    IMHO, it's foolish knot to
