NC, Uwharrie, March 2014 ..2 Day Uwharrie Geocaching trip.

I'm planning a trip with some guys in my platoon to Uwharrie for some Geocaching. I plan on using the trail head on 109 and getting all the Geocachs in that area making it a two day trip and hopefully making some hammock believers out of them.

Just looking for any info or experiences anyone might have for Uwharrie.

    Plenty of water sources?
    Hammock camping ok?
    Bears?

I am not sure about the location you are going but most of the uwharries is filled with creeks and streams.
There are a million trees and because its a national forest you can camp anywhere. I would check on the fire situation( should be fine this time of year with all the wet weather) usually you are restricted to fires in existing location, but thats not a problem because there are plenty near the trails and water sources.
Are bears possible? yes. We had one wander down into Union County, but not likely. If you check the link in my signature we are having a hang out in Yates Place in the Uwharries and the parks websites are listed. Check there to see if any warning are posted about bears, fires, road closures and such.

Good luck and enjoy some of this great country you are protecting for us and thanks for doing what you do. Any other questions feel free to PM me.

I've got a few of these checked off.
We got to the top of Dennis mountain our second day and didn't have the energy to bother though. Of course, that was 4 years ago, no telling what's changed since then.

Yes there is a 50 state star series I out there that I would like to do myself. Cache On and enjoy the hike.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.
