    DIY Tarps

I just completed my first DIY sil tarp....
11"x9"...black...'batcut' (my term, I'm not sure if I planned it that way or not )
anyhow...I just wanted to give a huge 2 thumbs-up for all the tarp makers out there. This project took more time than all 3 of my synthetic UQs combined!! Very labor intensive...
The tarp makers rock!! (Ed, the Jacks, Brian, Brandon, anyone I've forgotten)

UQs are easier? That's encouraging, because it's coming up, unless I fall for the Te-Wa, and I just might.

I'd love to see some photos of the bat cut. Is it black with yellow edging?

BTW, Brian claims to love sewing slippery sil. Those neat stiches of his are done without any pinning at all.

I call my tarp the "Hallelujah!" because it was a celebration when I finished!

But, it was worth it. Several multiday trips and I'm happy!

Remembering back to my down quilt making day(s), that thing probably took me a good 8-10 hours to make, and probably 7 or 8 hours for my Kinsman Pullover. I always say that people who make down/synthetic UQ's for a living must be blessed by God, because never again will I play with the stuff unless it's for me . And I do love my quilt!

But sil? Love the stuff! I pinned my first tarp...back in 2002

Yea, down would take alot longer, but the synthetic (climashield) stuff is pretty straight forward.
no bias edging on the tarp...just a rolled edge. the 'bat cut' is my poor excuse for a cat cut...tarp stays taut though
My miserable DIY skills should give confidence to anyone out there thinking of trying to make something...my motto - functionality over fashion
IOW, it don't have to look pretty to work!
