Is Hammock Gear a real vendor or just a cottage company on vacation?

I sent in a couple emails to sales __AT__ hammockgear.com and haven't heard back from them.

I noticed that there was some breakage on their site (broken links on their home page) and they never emailed me back.

I was going to buy a new underquilt from them but I have to admit I'm somewhat taken aback now.

Is this just because they're a small company?

You would think their sales email address would be actively monitored since I'm trying to give them money. :-P

I love their quilts, and if you can simply place your order and wait patiently you will be rewarded with an excellent product. If you have a question or custom request, my advice would be to try calling them. There are several threads regarding their lack of communication by email, and it seems most people have the best luck calling them by phone.

I would think that they should be responding to email. That's the way the world and business works these days. In this case you know that they make good products so like the guys have said. Order and don't worry. However if you are not happy with that then order from the other 2 companies that are also awesome and will answer your email.

I know that they recently lost some staff which put them behind a bit. They are a cottage vendor afterall and they do their best to keep up with everthing. Adam and Jenny can only do so much.

HG is a real vendor and has been around for awhile and makes top of the line gear. They are normally very good about getting back to customers so there must be something going on. Please remember that many of the vendors on the forum are not large companies but are many times just a one or two people and they do everything from make the products to answer the email ect.

I have ordered stuff from HG in the past and would not hesitate to do so again.

Indeed they are a real and true Vendor offering specialized gear that you will be hard pressed to find being sold in commercial stores.
Just check out their Thread on Hammock Gear Manufacturers and Service right here on HF. Proof they are real.

You may say the world does business through email, but many businesses are run by individuals and many different ways is the way individual do. When I worked at a hobby shop a couple lifetimes ago, we did lots of internet business. When I wasn't available for because of my regular job the internet business suffered. We never could get to the place where I could move to the hobby shop permanently and eventually it went out of business. Not because of me but I was one of several factors.
As mentioned, try calling or messages in their sub-forum. Or you can buck the system if you like, hopefully you'll get your stuff. I believe they're pleasant folks to talk too, if that's any factor for ya.

In my line of work and probably many others, I have to read or sift through about 30-40 emails to find one that is pertinent and not advertising or spam. Constantly adding to the spam filters and blacklist.
Occasionally a good email will get filtered out and they will have to be white-listed to keep the communication going.
Not defending them, just saying it's possible.
