Yeah, if you're lounging midday, what do you need the cuben weight savings for? Still, if you are lounging midday, do you really need a tarp to block light?
Doesn't cuben get softer with age so that after a few packings and unpackings, you'd have a quieter tarp than sil? My cuben doors seem to have gotten softer over time.
"I wonder if anyone else has an ear so tuned and sharpened as I have, to detect the music, not of the spheres, but of earth, subtleties of major and minor chord that the wind strikes upon the tree branches. Have you ever heard the earth breathe... ?"
- Kate Chopin
I'm in the recon phase of trying to decide on a new tarp as well. Got some longer trips with many miles planned for the upcoming years and the beast that I'm using now is way on the heavy side. Narrowed it down to the CF or a superfly, but still can't make up my mind...

Aye for the ounces but the non stretch is right up there with it. I like the set it and forget it.
Once you're lost in twilight's blue, you don't find your way, the way finds you.
I dunno, I've been following the blog of someone hiking the PCT, and apparently in the southern end that frequently involves taking a break mid-day during the worst of the heat. Depending on how far apart usable shade happens to be, a light-blocking tarp might come in real handy.
For sure. I don't have a photo of the setup, but on this sand it was a blast furnace.
No foliage out at the beginning of May, so the Mamajamba tarp saved me big time. Not everyone shaving weight hikes nonstop from 6am to 8pm, so I think a rest for lunch is pretty reasonable. After getting my kayak out here, I had most of the day to burn. Other than some more day-hiking and kayaking, I lounged quite a bit.
