    Compression Bags - Advice

With my man cave looking like a fabric store (and I don't mind that at all), I have being eyeing the idea of making compression sacks for clothing or for emergency cold weather gear bag if the weather changes fast.

I have bought a few cheaper compression sacks that just tear on the first or second use. With ripstop nylon, webbing, buckles, etc and a TI sitting idle right now (the agony), I was wondering if anyone has made their own and can give me some insight, or articles and links for a product that turned out good. Best way to reinforce? Stitches used, or number stitches, seams (flat felled, etc) that can take the stress.

Side note - I want to thank the member who posted the instructions on the measured stuff sacks - that has been valuable. I changed out the bags for 12 DIY hammocks I have (4 are mine, the rest are for the scouts).

    Thanks -

Well, I made this video on how to make a compression sack. It's not a traditional compression sack but it's easy enough to make. Disregard the fact that the one in the video is canvas, ripstop will work too. Hope it helps.

    Good luck,

I used Redolearys' instructions when I made my compression sacks.

The first thing I learned (after finishing the first sack) is that you need to make the bag long enough to hold the quilt BEFORE compression. My first sack had to be lengthened by about 6"....

After using them a few times I added a couple of pieces of Velcro to each one so that I could close the top long enough to roll it and get the straps into place for compression.

Oh, and use a fabric that's breathable, trying to compress something that won't let air out anywhere but the top (now closed) just doesn't work well..
