    Seeking UCR advice

7/64 amsteel is strong enough for me using Whoopie Slings. But I just tried some UCRs I made and it slipped right away.

I am 6'2" 325lbs (sigh), and often hang on trees too far apart. I did a 10 inch bury, and when I tested it this past weekend, it failed. As soon as my weight was in the hammock fully I slowly slid to the ground.

Do I need to go up in size amsteel, not for the strength of the line but for the size of the bury?

Although 10" should be enough you'll want to make sure you milk the bury and sizing up won't help, increasing the bury will. If it's well milked and still wont hold you take it up to 12" and see if that does it.
    Good luck,

I guess I'm also assuming you have a taught line hitch or similar knot coming off the bury to hold tension on the adjustable part?
    Good luck,

Yes I have a prusik to keep the bury taught, but I might have to increase the size, only 3 wraps, or go with something different.

I might go up to 14" bury, the extra 5.5 inches or so is still less than whoopies.

Larger diameter amsteel will require a larger minimum bury anyway so you might as well stay with the 7/64 and just make the bury longer. Slippage is not a function of the overall strength of the line, the length of the bury is.
    Good luck,

What size line is your prusik made from? If it's not smaller diameter than your amsteel then you will need more wraps. Also if you're using amsteel for the prusik amsteel on amsteel is going to be slick and more prone to slippage. I use zline on my UCRs and have never had a slip. I don't use them often, but from what use they've seen they have held fine. And I use a pretty minimum bury, I think only 6 or 8 inches using dynaglide.

No I'm not, but my point about my minimum bury is that the zline prusik does a good job of preventing slipping. And since you're using a larger diameter UCR and longer bury then the zline would do just as good, if not better, at keeping you from slipping. Especially if you added more wraps, I use 3 wraps on mine. The down side is that it bites down so tight sometimes that it can be hard to break it loose to slide it and you have to loosen the prusik in order to slide it.

I think the temperature affects a UCR. My 1/8" UCRs last spring, summer, and fall worked great, solid as a rock.

In icy 9 degrees several weeks ago I was on the ground in minutes and had to switch to my Warbonnet straps, which are always great anyway. They proved themselves and will be my winter suspension. I got some Dutch clips to go with them -- a great combo.
