    2qzq under protector

So I woke up this morning in the middle of some kind of freezing rain hurrican and got my under quilt pretty well soaked. I was thinking about getting the 2qzq under protector but I can't decide on what type of material. I like the idea of the sil for the total water protection. But I worry that it will make for a sweaty mess in all but the most ideal situations.
Anyone use the ripstop version of this. And if so how is the water protection?

I have the breathable one, and it keeps my UQ dry and keeps the dirt off. I love it, and it adds about 10* to my setup.

    +1 on breathable.

In the south there really isn't a need for the sil version unless you are hanging in an actual Hurricane. And in case you didn't know, we're supposed to be below zero tonight with windchill, might want to take a night indoors, although I'm contemplating setting up my gear for a new personal low.

I will hopefully be checking mine out tonight. The UQP will be on for sure.

I have the HH super shelter which is like the 2QZQ but HH uses the water proof material which has worked great without a lot of condensation. However, I thought about having 2QZQ make one with the very bottom out of sil with a 12 inch around the top edge out of regular nylon to allow more breathing. But I do find that in mild temp's just the cover gives about 10+ degrees.

I have the Ripstop Breathable from 2QZQ and love it. I use it pretty much all year up here in Oregon where we are famous for our moisture.
When not needed for water protection, it is a great way to keep everything clean.
I love the fact that if you adjust the shock cord on the sides properly, you will get good ventilation if you are worried about that.
Hope it helps.. I love mine

I have a new 2QZQ breathable UQP. I was out the other night at 26°. I suspect a sil UQP would have had some condensation like was on my tarp up near my head. While a silnylon UQP would provide more splash protection, I think the condensation issue would negate that.

Supposed to be near 20 tonight. Will be trying it again. We rarely see temps around 20 here so have to take em when we can get em!

I too prefer the breathable. It does repel rain and mud splatter from the ground when in a downpour using a shorter sided tarp. It's also a bit less prone to trapping condensation than silnylon but it is calendared so it's not quite as breathable as a straight untreated ripstop nylon.

How much does the UQP help with wind protection and convection? It seems like the biggest benefit would be creating nearly dead air around the UQ and preventing convection. Is this true?
