I'd say part of it also depends on what style hammock you want to go with. But just to stir the pot a bit, I'm around the same height and weight as you and I absolutely love my 9 foot hammock. Has the added benefit of using a smaller tarp so I get to save even more pack weight and bulk.

Im looking for a lightweight 4 season bomber with doors and side pull outs for my first setup.Cant afford cuben yet.
They are both 11 footers...( SLWH is 11.5 )
The Superfly is 1.3 lbs (kinda heavy?)
The simply Light is 24 ounces.
Im not sure if its with guylines added in though.
Yes Superfly size. Lots of folks here like the 12 foot tarps but where I hang sometimes the trees are not far enough apart to string up a 12 footer.

If I didn't own a Hammock Gear cuben fiber Winter Palace, I would have a Superfly. In fact, I'm thinking of buying one soon. The Winter Palace is 10 ft. 10" ridgeline by 10'7" wide. The Superfly is 11 ft. long by 10 ft. wide, so they're about the same measurements.

There's only three or four inches of coverage on each side over my whoopie hooks, and that's cutting it close if you wanna stay dry. I always believed that my drip point (Whoopie hooks, Dutch biner, rings, a shoestring) needed to be under the tarp. If I was using regular whoopies, I'd probably need a 12' ridgeline.

Having doors makes all the difference to me. I always close the doors in cold or inclement weather - it seems to retain a lot of warmth. Last year at the NJ Winter Hang I placed a bottle of water on the ground under my hammock, as did others. Everybody else's bottle froze, but mine didn't. I think that's a result of having a bigger tarp than most, bouncing my heat back toward the ground.

Hmmm....so with my bias wwm (11ft) and wl big Daddy tarp I won't have enough coverage? I have yet to set both together. I thought with the adjustable ridgeline I would be fine.

Shoot, well I was planning on heading out tomorrow for a day hike and setting things up to relax. Ill check it out.

I am almost exactly the same size 5'10" 205 right now, have been everything from 185-210 during hammock times...

I have slept in most sizes, from tiny GTUL to table clothes to WWM... And there is a huge step up in comfort and a bigger sweet spot in the big WWM... And I have stayed plenty dry under the Superfly, just close the doors and the world disappears...

Montana is all about wind. Not much rain, but afternoon thunderstorms are common in the mountains. A lot depends on how high up you go.

My 11 ft BIAS with the Wilderness Logics Big Daddy tarp was a great combination. Like a dummy, I sold it to diddle with bigger tarps. I had the half doors sewn on and will be doing that again, but with snaps rather than velcro to save some weight.

I will probably cut down the size of the 12 footer I made and add some cat cuts. That, or sell it and just buy the Big Daddy & have WL make the mods.

Keep in mind the shape of the tarp too, and not just the length, as was alluded to earlier. A diamond shape or a hex with a more serious cat cut might increase your risk of getting wet in a blowing rain than would something with a fuller shape towards each end of the hammock like a rectangle or better yet, something with doors. I think it's just what tradeoff you want to make between weight and coverage.
