    DIY KAQ question

(I tried searching but 'diy' kaq' are too short of search terms. Manual poking around for a few minutes didnt help either. Sorry if this has been hashed out elsewhere just drop me a link, thanks!)

Referring to the instructions given here:

    https://www.hammockforums.net/index.php?page=kaq

and specifically to the geometry pictured here

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...AQ_BC/plan.jpg

is it really 15" on one side and 18" on the other? Or is one a typo? I understand the hennessy is "asymmetric", but cutting a parallelogram out of a rectangle should result in symmetry? And if the instructions are right, which end is the foot end and which is the head end?

If the sides truly are different then on the left side are the dimensions still 57/33 to the dart?

    thanks

That is the pattern I always used. Can't explain why the differences, it has been too long.

Seems legit. Totals to 45". Nice tutorial too. Glad you found that.

Thanks for the confirmation; then on the left side the dart is 33" from bottom and 57" from top like the left side?

Yes, that will make the darts line up with the tie outs on the HH.

15" is the head and 12" is the foot.

This might bust some bubbles, and don't for a second get me wrong that tutorial is one of the best ever written on this site in my opinion....but there is a truck load of the work in that tutorial that can be simplified and distilled out. There are a lot of steps that can be simplified just for the sake of efficiency of build. For example make the head and foot end the same width....Then you can hang the finished quilt with either end being the head end. It will make less than an ounce of weight difference in the finished quilt and mean you don't have to pay as much attention to a subtle detail in hanging the quilt.

There are a bunch of other things as well. Just take the time to really think about the necessity of each step and see if eliminating or simplifying it is possible and you should shave time and $$$'s off of the project.

Agreed. Pgibson may know a thing or two about the KAQ. He is a wealth of information even if he only doles it out two cents at a time.
