I have been debating between buying enough insultex to make a 6 layered pad to put in my HH exp or just buy a super shelter. Any experiences with comparing these two concepts?

I have a HH explorer and was looking at making my own pad or underquilts......even bought a thread injector....or cloth welder whichever you would like to call it. However, I finally got as a Christmas present an Arrowhead Jarbidge and a New River underquilt. These two quilts I believe has the clima shield in them. I had them out last night and it was around the upper 20's and I was toasty warm. I waited and looked a long time before finally buying. I wonder now why I waited so long. The Jarbidge is 3/4 length and the New River is full length. Both were very reasonably priced and the quality is great.
This is the type of situation that comes down to a matter of taste. I have a Explorer, I have the complete SS. I like how light the SS is, I can get it all back into the original bag plus the overcover. I also have UCs, it just depends on the particular situation what I will take with me. I also have a quilt protector.
My personal experiences tells me which gear to take for the type of Hang I am going on. There are parts of using the SS that I really like. Now days I almost always use the TC because it gives me a lot of extra warmth without any real weight addition. I like how compact the SS is. However, it takes some work to get the set-up to fit back in the original bag. Underquilts also serve their purpose, just depends on the particular situation. I guess that is why I have a lot of gear, too many coats and too many pairs of shoes. LOL
The SS is custom designed and fit to work with your Hennessy. In my book that gives it the advantage over an insultex system. Looks much better too.
