    What lay am I?

Having never hung before, I came across R asym or L asym. How can I tell which is more comfortable for me without using a hammock that I currently don't have? Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately there's no way to really know until you try it out. You could make a quick and dirty hammock out of a bed sheet or 10 feet of ripstop picked up from your local fabric store to test.

Are you a side sleeper? If you sleep mostly on your back, I would say left or right is not super important. Unless you want to exit on a specific side.

If you are a side sleeper, do you have a side that you favor? I found that in my "righty" hammocks (head left, feet right, exit to the left), it is easier for me to sleep on my left side. That might be just me, though

If you think the choice might be a big deal, do what Catavarie suggested and try out a DIY or cheap hammock and see which direction you prefer.

I'm a pure left side sleeper in a bed, but in my hammock I end up 3/4 on my right side. So the way you sleep in a bed, may not be the same way you sleep in a hammock. Just an FYI.

Ditto, and you'll know which is better the second you get in which is more comfortable.

Spot on comments both. There are scads of hangers in your state. Friendly folks all. They'll probably let you take a test lay in a DIY they have to sort it out in your head. I offer mine but that's one heck of a drive.

Personally, I don't have a preference. Sometimes I am a lefty, sometimes a righty. I toss and turn in a bed, and in a hammock, the same. Lay one way, get up to the call of nature, lay back down the other......RR

I lay with my head right of center and my feet to the left, but my hammocks aren't built for that specific purpose, I suppose reg. gathered end hammocks are ambidextrous.
Gathered end hammocks are probably better for finding out which side you prefer b/c it is ambidextrous.
    Good luck,
