    Slate Island in Ontario

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I'm wondering about Slate Island.

I'm tentatively planning a trip to the Thunder Bay area next July. I want to see the caribou and do a little inter-island kayaking. I'm wondering if it's worth the expense of the "enhanced driver's license" required for travel to Canada.

Has anyone visited Slate Island? Are there good spots to hammock camp on the island, and is it allowed?

The few places in Ontario I've been, I'd sleep only in a cabin.
    Bears.

I looked at Slate Island when planning a trip to the area a couple years ago. Seems like an interesting trip.

On documents, a passport would do instead of the EDL but if you don't have one, whatever is cheaper. Lots of nice places to go in Canada and Ontario but I might be a bit biased.

Thumbs, bears aren't a problem unless you do something dumb like keep food in your hammock.

As far as bears go, I've never had a big concern (black bears)...prudent use of bear bags and good camp housekeeping skills seems to keep all the critters clear...except for those pesky red squirrels :-)

Think I'll research it more and plan a long weekend there assuming I can fit it in around my planned return to Isle Royale. I've notice a short window when trying to avoid the worst of bug season and yet stay in moderate weather.
