Quick question: what width for 12 foot hammock?

Quick question: what width would you recommend for a 12 foot hammock? I've used the Tablecloth factory crinkle taffeta before, but the 156" length tablecloths are 90" wide...90" is too wide for me. The extra fabric just flops around and is annoying. What do y'all recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

I have the exact same issue as you. As a result I have not used it at all to sleep in.
I've been considering cutting some of the width out, adding a knotty mod, or some type of asym mod to tighten the loose material.
Who knows it's wider than MAN is tall so maybe we could lay perpendicular to the ridgline and start a whole new movement of hammocking. Definitly the flattest lay

    Around 60"-70" is pretty standard.

This is interesting to me too. I have been sleeping in a dual layer homemade 90"x156" crinkle taffeta hammock for the last several months as a full time bed replacement. I love it because it's so big (I'm 6'1"), but I don't like how the fabric falls into the hammock, etc. I'm wondering how (and if) I should make changes to make it work better for me too. I'm curious what others have done, other than not buying such a big tablecloth size to begin with.

I persoanlly don't have a thread injector. However, with holiday travels to visit family, there may be an opportunity to borrow one for a modest project. I'd figured 65" would be OK, but wanted to get feedback from others that had already been there and done that and had success. Am guessing one long cut, then one or two runs of thread injection to create the finished edge and it should be good to go.

I like the 60 x 126 from Tableclothsfactory. It's plenty big, for me, & I'm 6'4" and pretty heavy. For the bigger hammock, I think I'd try the Knotty mod before cutting it down: running a shock cord channel on both sides to tighten up the fabric.

Grab a 50% fabric outlet coupon(JoAnns, Michaels, etc) and experiment. Most the standard ripstop is fine (depending on how much selvage you have to trim off).

Also, make sure your hanging your hammock to take advantage of that width.

@Jimbo: I'm only 5'11", but I really like the lie (lay?) of the 12 foot hammock. Just not fond of floppy extra side fabric....at least, not to sleep in. I have two nieces that love playing in the long and wide hammock!

@Sam: I bought several 90x156 tablecloths already when they were on sale for $18. I figured if I really screw one up, it's not the end of the world.

Btw: I've never purchased fabric before...can you get fabric that length and around that width for <$20??? I figured the tablecloths were a good deal, especially with finished edges.
