I don't get the rain you guys do in winter so maybe the under the tarp RL won't work.

All my winter tarps use under RL mostly for snow load and a little protection from falling branches.
In the cold and wind we get a lot of branch shedding.
Having some 1/8" amsteel above me gives me a little protection.

Yeah, we get a mix here in central NJ.

I like the idea of some protection from falling stuff.
Plenty of high winds. I do look for deadfalls but even so have had 8ft branches drop onto or next to the tarp.

Not wanting to jinx myself but the tarp has held up well with everything mother nature has thrown it's way thus far.

A level ridge live underneath and a couple of drips stops should do the trick.
    Have sherpas, will travel...
Triangles, it's all about the triangles.

Oh and the tarp was spared some damage while clearing snow.
Was trying to clear that left edge in the pic above and the center tie out gave way.

The stainless keychain type ring I was using straightened out and let go. Better it than the grosgain loop.

Here it's the live stuff that will get you. The dead stuff is easy to spot.
I don't think 1/8" amsteel would even have a chance with a tree that size.
