I find it interesting that people can hike and sweat all day, sleep in their underwear and fart all night, and that's ok, but if you pee in a bottle somehow a line has been crossed. Cultural conditioning at play here.

The inevitable 3:00AM call of nature has made me experience some of the brightest stars, quietest forests, coldest times of day on many of my trips. Can almost always see/hear something that I wouldn't have had I stayed asleep in my hammock.

...never really saw this as a problem.

Funny though, whenever I sleep in a bed, which isn't very often these days, I NEVER have to get up in the night. Anyone know what's up with that??
It could indicate you are cold, or getting cold.
When your body temperature starts to drop, your body will try to reduce heat loss by constricting blood vessels and reducing blood flow to the surface of the skin. When that happens, your blood pressure rises, because the same volume of blood is flowing through less space in your body.
In response to this, your kidneys will pull out excess fluid to reduce your blood pressure. Your body is creating balance. It is called "Homeostasis".
    This causes you to pee.
A full bladder is a place for additional heat loss, so urinating will help conserve heat.
Isn't the human body marvelously created?
I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.

Urine is principally water. It also contains an assortment of inorganic salts and organic compounds, including proteins, hormones, and a wide range of metabolites, varying by what is introduced into the body. Healthy urine is not toxic. After suitable processing it is possible to extract potable water from urine.

I just get up and go. Fun to feel the woods and see the moon or shooting star and crawling back in without urine on me is heart-warming.
I work hard not to pee on my boots or mukluks. I don't pee on a tree….splash-back))))))

I find that sleeping in a hammock, makes me Water bushes more. Its like wearing Wetsuit, causing more pressure? dunno..

when the call comes.. Rain, snow, sleet, Hot sunshine.. Out I go & water.

As for making critters fearing the humans scent by peeing around camp. Um.. Might want to look at tricks for Trail cams. Those are fun to have.. and photo's they catch at night..

I gotta say...I get up to pee. I'm clumsy as it is and I don't need pee all over me in the middle of the night.

When it's raining at night I've been known to kneel down under the tarp and pee out one side of the tarp.

Do what ya gotta do to get it done and climb back in your warm hammock
