    Amsteel Cinching Loop?

Hi all! I've been browsing this forum for a while now and just had a thought. Would it be possible to make a loop out of Amsteel using something like the buries in a whoopie sling so that it could cinch down on gear? I was thinking of a better way to keep rolled up pads and sleeping bags rolled up tightly and wondered if anyone has done anything like this before or had any thoughts on how to make it, if its even possible.

Adjusting whoopies under tension is difficult, in my experience. I tried to use whoopies to hang my tarp and it didn't work out well. You essentially need three hands to adjust it (or use your teeth). I would imagine you'd have the same issue here trying to adjust.

There are people who use whoopies for guylines, but I would imagine they're difficult to adjust, as any whoopie under tension is.

I use a Prusik knot run back onto its own line. It's guaranteed to cinch down and not slip but still come off easily.

Yes and no. A loopie sling with a tensioning knot on the non-adjusting end (like a UCR) might be used, but it is designed to be an adjustable length continuous loop and not a cinching device. It might not release smoothly because of the friction between it and the gear being wrapped.

Give it a try and let us know how it works.

It works, but is a little difficult to cinch down and milk the bury and to release. This is only because of the friction between the loopie and the CCF pad and you just about need to get your finger under the loopie to do it. It wouldn't work well with gloves or cold fingers but it does work.

This one is made out of a rope similar to Dynaglide.
