    Single tree hang

Last weekend I was at my in-laws and decided to see what there was for hanging options. Well, we found this mother of all hammock trees. Pretty much all the big stuff in these pictures is one tree. I'm really curious how many people we could hang in this single tree without people being stacked or more than a couple feet off the ground? I think there is the potential for 10-12 at least. Many of them might not be able to hang a tarp but it would be interesting for an afternoon. My wife and I were able to hang with tarps for the night. If anyone in east central MN is interested in trying for a "record" we might have to set something up.

This fall, I took a recreational tree climbing lesson. One of the fun, and restful, stops was to lie down in a tree-boat hammock about 30 feet off the ground. There are spots that this can be done with little difficulty, but many of them are not near the ground.

The only time on the AT that I remember doing a hang like this was at the shelter just north of Dragon's Tooth.

That looks like fun and I can't wait to see the pics.

As far as a tarp, If you make a "sock" out of silnylon, with pole mod, vent the ends and add a little drip line break just before entering the "sock tarp", I think you can all have tarps in the tree.

The sock tarp is on the hammock suspension and with an internal support structure(or external) to open it, all you need is a single line(shockcord?) straight down to "anchor" it. Or put your gear on the bottom.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
