Thread: TQ/UQ care

The tennis balls are to break up clumps of down when they settle or stick together after washing or when down or the newer synthetics become wet.

Newer synthetics simulate properties that down has. This is why you hear the same techniques applied to both.

No eating with the quilts in the hammock.
I always sleep in clean Cabelas silk long johns and use a UQP
After every trip my quilts are layed on a bed in a spare bed room for storage.
If they feel damp I will toss them in the dryer with a tennis ball on the lowest heat for 15 minutes.
Same here! Mine never touch the ground. I think the only reason I'd need to wash my UQ is if it did fall on the gound in a puddle of mud - very unlikely. The TQ(sleeping bag) has never been washed either, but that just depends.

I wash mine every year…sometimes my UQ twice.
There is a some night-time methane being pushed through those down clusters as I lay ever so comfortably and let my self relax.

I've often wondered about the wisdom concerning the use of tennis balls/shoes with delicate items such as UQs and TQs and such. Some folks warn against using top load washers for as they can tear the baffles. I wonder what our cottage vendors think of this.

I think I would just soak in the bath tub using woolite or special soap for down. No machine washer for me. Now drying you just about have to use to get the down un clumped.
