I was wondering when someone would make the connection. For months I 've been thinking that Shug ran away from the Klicher home stead to join the circus. Look at the evidence:

    He looks like Yule Klicher.
He is right at home in the outdoors.
    He can stand frigid temperatures.

Come on Shug admit it, Your the black sheep of the Klicher family.

    Code Name Cross Country.
I don't get what the big wrench is for. I haven't needed to bring a wrench that big into the woods yet.

wiki on GI Joe Cross Country

His real name is Robert M. Blais, and his rank is that of sergeant E-5. Cross-Country was born in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Cross-Country's primary military specialty is armor, and his secondary military specialty is heavy equipment operator. His father was a bulldozer operator, and his mother drove a grader, therefore he had a natural affinity for heavy machinery, coupled with an uncanny sense of direction and fearlessness under fire. He is a qualified expert with the heavy laser cannon, M-16A2, M-2 50 cal. MG, and .45 auto-pistol.[1]

well Shug was just in NC too (Linville Gorge) Coincidence

Might be another alias for Shug

Wait isn't this a doll? Shouldn't the life story go something like... Cross Country was molded from melted plastic on an assembly line somewhere in China. From there he was shipped to the U.S. where he sat on a shelf at Toys R Us for about a year or so. One black Friday an elderly grand-lady dropped
kicked some mother to get him for her grandson (it is an action figure, so there's the action). The Grandson played with him for a couple of weeks where he was teamed up with Batman, Butch Cassidy and others, to defeat the evil stick monster, the boogy-man and other evil doers. Currently he is spending his retirement as the dogs chew toy...

However your story explains the wrench.

The musical influence is in the family too. Yule's granddaughter is Jewel.
