    Introducing The Mountain Series

It's like the Rolls Royce of outdoor fabrics.... - Me

1.1 oz Mountain Series Silnylon - color comparisons.jpg

Ever since starting RBTR, I've dreamed of creating a line of fabrics/materials that offered the absolute best of the best in performance and spared no expense to do so. In short, I wanted to create the Rolls Royce of fabrics.

In the beginning, I couldn't do it because I was broke. We launched RBTR with three fabrics (yes, three total - not three fabrics with a bunch of colors) and it took every bit of extra money I had to make those. Later, after we'd been fortunate enough to have some success and grow, there was the problem of getting the fabric right. I kept running into materials that were very good, but I still felt there was something better if we held out and pushed just a little harder.

And then one day, it finally happened. After years of dreaming, tweaking, sampling, and testing, today we're proud to introduce The Mountain Series. In a nutshell, you can think of The Mountain Series as a collection of the highest performance fabrics/materials on earth. If your project or product requires the absolute best you can get, this is it. Period.

To start, we're bringing you the following two fabrics:

1.1 oz MTN Silnylon 6.6 XL

There's no sense in beating around the bush here. If you're looking for the lightest, strongest, most waterproof tarp/shelter fabric you can get, this is it. While our 20D Silnylon and Silpoly are great fabrics, especially for hammock tarps, comparing those to MTN Silnylon is apples and oranges. If you're the visual type, here's a quick video we did to compare:

At a finished weight of 1.3 osy, the 1.1 MTN Silnylon is only about 5% heavier than our standard 1.1 oz Silnylon/Silpoly, but with a > 3000 mm waterproof rating and tear strength numbers that rival the best you will ever find on this planet for the weight.

Essentially, take any application needing a lightweight waterproof fabric. Make it out of MTN Silnylon and you'll have gear that's stronger and lasts longer.

1.1 oz MTN Ripstop Nylon 6.6 XL (*actual finished weight 1.06 osy)

If you're looking for the strongest, lightest hammock fabric on the market, this is it. In fact, this is the exact same fabric used in the crazy strong MTN Silnylon 6.6, just without the silicone coating.

This fabric will hold more weight than anything else in it's weight class as it's built from the strongest yarn possible - Nylon 6.6. Now "best" for hammock fabrics is quite subjective based on feel, stretch, etc. Something that your buddy loves may not be the right fit for you. That being said, here are my opinions:

    - Weight Rating: Everyone's first question. We're putting 225 lbs on this fabric for a single layer hammock.

    - Feel: Soft and smooth, but probably not quite as soft as 1.0 HyperD.

    - Breathability: One of the best if not THE most breathable hammock fabric we carry. If you're looking for a summer hammock to stay cool in, this is a good choice.

    - Stretch: Again this is subjective, but I feel it has less stretch than 1.0 HyperD with perhaps only a hair more stretch than 1.2 ROBIC Hybrid XL.

We'll be adding colors and other fabrics/materials to this line over time, so keep a look out. As always, if anyone has questions, please don't hesitate to let us know.

    THANK YOU!!!

    Introducing The Mountain Series

After reading my post again---I realize my questions did not match fabric weights.
Are you gonna have this Mountain fabric for hammocks in 1.6 and 72 inches wide.
Thank you RBTR for bring us the best--at---I'm guessing, a sizable investment in time and cash.

Here's the tear strength video we left out of the original post. In it we're doing a simple tear strength test to compare our standard 1.1 oz Silnylon 20D and the new 1.1 oz MTN Silnylon 6.6.

Note - if you think my struggle grunts on the MTN series are played up for the camera, I invite you to try this yourself and post a vid .

Thank you, Kyle for a great addition to an already great line of fabrics.

I just retired, but I'm in the process of building a new home and moving this year. But when I get settled, you are going to have to send an entire truck load to me.
