    new quilt, what degree?

Well looks like I'm going to be getting a 0 degree sleeping bag here soon and I just ordered materials to make a TQ as well. (Well I ordered the TQ stuff, and then found a good deal on a sleeping bag)

So, now the question is what degree should I make this TQ? Also, I already have a 15 degree synthetic sleeping bag. I'm leaning toward 30 degree, because we really only have about 2 weeks of hot weather all year.

    Any opinions?

I lived in Mpls for 40+ years. Moved to Montana to get warm.
I'd be working on a -40* if I was still there.

Warm is easy . It's cold that destroys these arbitrary temperature ratings . Im planning about -20 in order to be comfy at zero this winter .

If you decide on a 30F TQ, Why not make a TQ that you can use either alone or stacked on top of you sleepingbag? Make the TQ foot box big enough to fit you sbag into without compressing it.
I use my SnugPak Jungle bag (45F bag - ya right, more like a 55F bag) as a TQ over my mummybag on real cold nights. It helps a little. Then in the summer it is my stand-alone summer TQ or sleepingbag.
I think 30F TQ might be the right answer for you to add to your current sleep system..

I haven't had a chance to play around with such things in the hammock world yet, but for ground-sleeping I'm totally sold on nesting two sleeping bags (the outer generously cut so as not to compress the inner) rather than using a single bag with a very low rating. On the advice of others before me, the lowest rating for a single bag is 0, then below that you combine. You might consider the same for your quilts - size them so they can be combined for those very low temperatures.
