    dutchwaregear.com saved my underquilt!

So I am trying out quilts for the first time this year after years of sleeping pads. I made the top quilts and they were working just fine. The underquilt though I could not figure out. It would end up moving overnight and I kept waking up cold to readjust it. I wanted to try a couple of ideas that I have seen here before giving up and going back to sleeping pads. I ordered some of Dutch's ridge line quilt hooks. I put them on today and wow what a difference. The quilt stays up nice a snug against the hammock. Great work dutch! What are peoples experience of using these in sub zero temperatures? Does the plastic hold up without cracking or breaking? Maybe a ti version someday? I am laying in the hammock right now with the temp at 31 degrees f and am too warm with my foyle underquilt and diy 2.5 climashield apex top quilt. If I were out here for the night I would have to vent it a little. Thank you to everyone for the various suspension ideas, thank you to dutch and underquilts.com for such great products!

Can't talk about sub-zero conditions, but I managed to break one. Not exactly sure how I did it; I think it might have jammed somehow and the pull got too much when I moved in the hammock.

Have to say I like the idea and the light weight, but my netting shows marks now where the hooks are located. I also used normal mitten hooks for the same purpose and it worked equally well (for me). The advantage is, that the mitten hooks don't sit on the ridgeline and therefore are less likely to rub a hole in the netting. But the construction is also a bit more flexible - and of course not as cool

FireInMyBones saved my underquilt. He made a hammock mod so now my underquilt is permanently attached to my hammock. No hooks to tear on anything. Rated to 35F because over the years of hanging (almost 15 years now) I noticed I NEVER slept in a hammock in the woods without an underquilt, and that 90% of the time it was rated to at lest a 40f.
So thanks to the FIMB Bonefire no more fiddle factor, no more bungie cords to come loose or have to adjust.....and nothing to snag or cut.

I have used some of my plastic Dutchware in cold weather, everything worked great.

I hate to be rude, but for the cold to upset the chemical makeup of the dutchwear, a person would be an idiot to be out Hanging. Some odd things do happen at around -40 or -45 degrees F or C. I know in my car the seats cracked and the headliner did odd things. I spend part of the year in the far north of B.C. I would not depend on anything plastic there. I do not think most members of HF would put Dutchware Gear to such torture. I think his plastic bling would be great for anything in the Lower 48 states.

I break mitten hooks frequently, Dutchwear Gear, so far I have not broken, been using it for 4 years now without problems. I just do not use plastic in really cold conditions.

I like the plastic QH's because they can be removed before packing my hammock up. I usually move each day, and use different trees each night. I don't sleep in the same place, in the hammock due to this, so I like to be able to move them where and when needed. Most nights and set ups, don't need them. You can also use them to re-route the UQ suspension, so it's actually runs over the hammock suspension on one of both ends, which dramatically changes how the UQ lays.

Plastic Dutch Quilt Hooks, ARE gateway bling to Dutch's titanium offerings, so this is probably where the warning and disclaimer should go

OK. We are not discussing the same thing. Sorrys. Where is the crack for hammocks meeting tonight?

I've used the quilt hangers in single digit temps, but I think a titanium version would be a great idea.

I may be wrong, but I believe that these are made from Delrin plastic which would be just fine at subfreezing temps. Dutch and Tato make some nifty products.

Thanks for the shout out, MedicineMan. Your ideas helped out quite a bit.
