    New Hanger - NW Louisiana

Hi all! Been poking around the forum for a bit now and enjoy reading a lot of the posts and threads. It's official, I have caught the bug and enjoy hanging around. A buddy (Eddielbs) got me hooked on hammocks and I was able to put it all to the test this past weekend.

A small 3 day 2 night trip and I enjoyed sleeping in my hammock in the Ouachita Forest. I was plenty ready though as I had slept in the hammock for over week in my spare bedroom. However, after a pretty cold night I am dead set on getting an underquilt and not just relying on a pad. I have a poncho liner and I think I will give the DIY underquilt a try before I spend a few hundred bucks.

If the poncho liner underquilt goes well I will report back. As stated before I enjoy the forum and appreciate people sharing their experiences. One thing I have learned; recreating the wheel is a waste of time.

Welcome to HF....from the "Wilds of western Mass." I spent a bit of time in your fine state after I got out of the Navy in '79. A squadron buddy was from Mansura & invited me for some duck hunting. Enjoyed being there so much, that I took a temp. roustabout job with Shell Oil in New Iberia. Ended up staying for 3 months!! Work 3 days....hunt 4 days....work 4 days....hunt 3 days! Weird schedule, but kept me hunting & able to pay for it! You're in for a great time with your new way to camp & also here on HF. Peace.

Welcome from the Missouri Ozarks. I used a pad for a long time and it is pure luxury hanging with an underquilt.
