    My first experience with my DIY Down UQ and Chinook 0* red Flash down bag, was miserable. Low was around 39...and I woke up thinking I had hung over the campfire...

    From this experience, I believe I can get into the single digits and be comfy with base layer

    I always find it's more comfortable to have an appropriate UQ and scale back the TQ, but I sleep warm.

    Very true. Worst case scenario you pile every last piece of clothing you have on top of you if you get cold. On bottom, things get tricky. Besides, my UQ wraps me up like a taco, to there's not a lot of body to cover with the TQ.

    I do the same but not really by choice since it is the gear that I have that dictates right now. Both my quilts are rated to 30*. My topquilt is good to about 40* and my down bags good to 35*.
