How To Make A Hammock in 3 Minutes (+Zip Ties)

Thanks to tablecloths, the DIY barrier to make your own hammock is all but eliminated. For our scout group, we have been making hammocks this month and I thought I'd share the basic way we are putting them together. This is part one: whipping the hammock into shape. In the next installment, I'll show the fitted, zippered bug net and ridge line.

For most forum members, this won't be anything new, although the technique involving zip ties might be helpful to some. Let me know if you have any questions!

Watch the video again...

For your 7 minutes, you get two whipped end gathered sets of instructions and one loadbearing channel gathered end. Heck, you get change back if all you needed was one.

Thanks for the support! I suppose that sewing a single line end channel (non load-bearing) will increase the build time to maybe 5 minutes. Sorry!

Is the plain weave black tablecloth you used the heavy polyester one from tablecloths.com or something else?

It's funny you should ask. I actually bought a couple of these by accident, thinking they were the crinkle taffeta (I obviously wasn't paying close attention). It turns out they work just great.

That makes at least two of you reporting they have liked that material.

I prefer a bit of stretch.
