Why not just use the cheap quilt batting from walmart. Sew it between the two layers around the perimeter and call it good. If you arent packing and unpacking it isnt going to move.

    Simple and cheap.

No, I actually sewed the perimeter of it like I would any DL nylon hammock. The flannel is a layer on the hammock. Gives you a nice warmer layer to lay on.

If you want something between the poly and satin layera permanently thenactually sew the flannel (or thin fleece) in between as a third layer. It'll insulate just enoigh for an indoor hammock. I wouldn't worry about compression.

I'm not sure how well stain will work as a hammock. Personally I'd go with silk instead of satin, feels luxurious against the skin and super strong. Also, I don't know if you've ever tried to get a purchase on a satin sheet, but that stuff can be real slippery. (Fell out of a bed I was trying to climb into once. What? It was a high bed.) Imagine trying to get out of a hammock that you keep sliding down in.

If you want to go with an insulated hammock and still have a good skin feel, it would likely be easier (okay, maybe not really easier) to do a triple (I guess really a quadruple) layer instead of just a double.
    • Top layer - For the skin feel
    • Structural layer - Holds the weight
    • Insulation layer - Uhhh...it insulates
    • Outerlayer - Keeps things together and looking nice

I've read of people doing silk hammocks. Since its indoor user only, perhaps pick a strong enough silk to use as single layer, skip the second layer and sew the insulation to the outside & call it done?

I thought satin was usually made of silk! I do kind of like the 4-layer idea, but I don't know if my thread injector is up for the task I just figured I could do top layer, insulation, structural layer?

Ok, here I go just spitballing another idea. Harbor freight has wool blend blankets for $9.99. Now this is where it's gonna get crazy. What if I got a couple of these blankets, stitched them together to make a "sleeve", then filled that with shredded foam like you would find in lovesacks? I could sew the end shut afterwards, and in essence have a wool memory foam pillow. So going on Catavarie's 4-layer idea, here is what I'm contemplating:

Top layer: still gonna go with the satin, for cost, slippery is ok by me.
    Structural layer: taffeta tablecloth
Insulation layer: giant wooly shredded foam pillow slipped between structural and outer layer
    Outer layer: taffeta tablecloth.

Anyone think of why this would be an awful idea? My idea would be to only use enough foam so it is somewhat "fluffy", but not so full that it will prevent the hammock from taking its shape. I am picturing it being like a giant cloud hammock pillow...

Also, FWIW, I already ordered the fabric, burgundy satin 90x156, and 2 black taffeta tablecloths 90x156. $55.67 after shipping.
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

Check out this thread. Syrrka did a good job on this one and her photos are better than mine. One thing to keep in mind with full time hammocks are that they will need laundering more often than your hiker.

If it was just me I would do something like that, but I liked the idea of it just having the fabric on the outside to make it more "aesthetically pleasing" for my gf. She said she wanted something "fluffy".

Sew on some lacy trim while putting the top and bottom together to dress up the front edge.

I have my fabric showing up tomorrow. Soon I will sew the first 3 layers and leave a side open to slide in the insulation. This will sure be a project...
