I bought one of Meckelangelo's hammocks just before HammEck was formed and the quality is great. As with others who posted here, I have been eliminating my "made-out-of-the-country" hammocks in favor of stateside.

There was an earlier question about stitching. I read somewhere that "normal" hammock stitching is two lines but if it is a channel that is going to directly hold a suspension line - like a continuous loop, not an end bundle with a larks head around it - then go to three lines.

I don't know why I am still partial to DL hammocks as I have a small fortune invested in under quilts. Maybe it's because of fear mongering I've read about mosquitoes biting through it (and the clothes I'd be wearing?) from the bottom. Or maybe it's just the added flexibility of having that sleeve for a pad. But really, a single layer would be lighter and work just fine. About hammocks for larger fellows - I'd imagine you want the fabric to be something heavier than 1.1 oz ripstop. Something like 1.5 - 1.7 oz would probably support on the plus side of 200 lbs in Single Layer designs.

    1. We enjoy making them.
    2. We (my mother and I, the thread injector operators) are perfectionists. It will be difficult to find better stitching. And the more we make, the better we'll get.
    3. The market is far from saturated. A quick look at the waiting lines for some of the bigger vendors (Warbonnet, Dream Hammock, etc.) will show this. We're hoping to offer another alternative so hangers can get into a hammock they'll love.
    4. For now, we'll be targeting lower price ranges by offering hammocks that aren't quite so feature-rich. Few other cottage vendors offer a simple gathered end hammock, forcing people to go to the likes of Grand Trunk or Eagles Nest Outfitters, who mass produce their hammocks.
Don't sell yourself short, lets not forget...
