20° HG Incubator + deep winter

I don't get out all that much in the dead of winter; definitely not enough to invest in a 0° UQ. But IF I get out more this year, how would you guys suggest I supplement my 20° Incubator to keep me cozy in the winter - down to 10° or so? Maybe the 20° is enough with heavy long underwear?

I've used a piece of windshield sun shade in the past and the condensation was hit or miss. I think it just depended on the temps and humidity.

Since it will need to fit in my pack, I'm not sure I have many options.

You could add a weather shield to your set-up. And wear more insulation too.
    Carry forth.

Had to smile was thinking the same thing when i saw shugs video pop up . I slept outside last night with the lows in the upper 20"s and while my uq was an original fronkey diy, it kept me plenty warm, but i was thinking if there was a stiff wind from the north i am pretty sure it would have been some loss of downy warmth.. so question is how bad do i want one,,,oh and yea do i really need one?

Thanks Shug, I never really thought about one of these for some reason. And come to think of it, it would have been handy on my last trip. Even though it was warm at night, the rain was swirling in all directions and the mist was mighty close to my UQ, even with the tarp doors on.

You can always find a way to skin the cat...............this was an experiment w/what I had..........My current system...............https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=63076 has been at a cost and I still tweak my clothing system, which is for the major parts army surplus. If you have extra slleping bags, hillbilly them up with corner ties and shockcord over your ridgeline. Make do w/your budget. You will find you can still get out there and have fun.

I only use a 20 degree UQ with 2QZQ breathable UQP in winter.
My TQ is a 5 degree SB
The trick is sleeping in insulated over clothing.
You can also use the hot water bottle trick.

Small torso pad, down hat or Hood, and wristies will go a long way.

Thanks for all the help. I'm looking forward to winter. Farmers almanac and a few weather predictions say colder and snowier, but I won't get my hopes up.

I'm with Outandback as a fan of winter camping in the cold. Also, with his experience with layers, and the right ones. If a wool sweater (or 2) are not damp from exertion of the hike, climb or ride,--and they are not likely to be if they were well away from your skin when active --then wear them in the hammock. Two thin layers of silk or silk-like legging-bottoms are remarkably warm.

On that last point consider road-bicyclists, who wear spandex-tights and sleeves in order to be substantially warmer than bare armed and bare legged when cruising in winter cold at 15-30mph.

Another option is the winter sock.
They were very popular at the 2013 Colorado Winter Hang.
