    colder weather

in my preparation to getting colder temps, last night was 21*F. I am still using my exped 9 pad, with ccf spe braced along the shoulder to hip. and my sleeping bag...I was in my switchback 1.9 dbl. as I find it holds the pads better than my thunderbird dbl. (size I believe)
I was wearing my 200 merino wool icebreaker t-shirt and buff around the neck and merino wool boxer briefs under an old sierra design light weight base-layer long under wear. also thick wool socks. over my head was my toque. my legs were the only thing cold this morning....and sporadically my nose when it went too high above the sleeping bag.
I am waiting for my -25F UQ and 0F TQ. should be here by end of month. only other addition to my REALLY cold weather will be a wiggy's sleeping bag(-40/-60F)

Who is making your -25F UQ? Wiggy's bags are awesome for cold weather sleeping comfort.

It's good you are using your backyard hammock testing lab and figuring out what works best for you.

    Cheers

UGQ is making me a "polar" zeppelin.
I agree it isn't that cold yet, but it will be getting there, so I may as well start collecting gear I will need. and test it out. I plan on being out in at least -22F. colder if I get the chance.

This is what keeps my nose warm a piece of polar fleece with some elastic tied to it.

We just got our first dusting of snow this past weekend, it was pretty much gone by noon both days. I almost backyard camped in it, then I remembered I have no tarp... yet...

Hit the low 30's last night where I camped. Was also windy and rainy, the perfect combination for hypothermia. I can hardly wait for it to get cold enough so that the rain is no more. Was using my summer set-up with the addition of a trucksized sunshade between the layers and my poncho weathershield. I know this set-up can get me to just below freezing and then I switch to my warmer quilt and larger tarp.
