I have a suggestion that Im about to put into use in my gear shed (yes I have a gear shed...gets that way after a while...)

Why not use a hammock to store them?

Theres 2 methods of thought here. one, if you have the room just lay the quilts in a legit hammock (in my case, and ENO or GT). But what Im going to do in my shed is get one of those mesh gear hammock/slings and put it under the shelf in the shed and lay out the quilts. You can have airflow, natural loft (more or less) and they can be handy. In an apartment, you could hang it off the wall or ceiling and its out of the way till you need them (if you do it to the ceiling, id say toss a sheet over them so you dont have dust/ceiling crap falling into them.)

one of these. In my shed, im going to use small mug hooks to also hold this more open than it is normally so its a wider, more flat "shelf"

I use mil surplus laundry bags (the non-waterproof ones). Have one for each of my sleeping bags. They work well, don't know if they breath, but my down bags seem to be OK in them.

    Equipment Storage Old Pillow cases

I smade cotton tubes by sewing two pillowcases together (cutting one end of one PC). Then thread some cordage / shoelace through the hemmed opening which is used to cinch and hang quilts and sleeping bags. Seems to work, but looks dorky.

I travel a lot and have been carrying around multiple setups to show friends and co workers so I carry all my hammocks. 4 total in a black hawk stuff sack I got when I was in the navy I carry everything in this bag including tarps straps underquilts and my harness so I don't fall if I hung my hammock high and usually enough rope to do whatever I feel like

I use an antique but nice steamer trunk for my sleeping bags. My wife has her beautiful Tennessee Cedar Hope Chest in the living room as a coffee table. My point being that you might be able to find or make some sort of cool looking storage box that could be used as a coffee table or a bench seat and take up little if any extra space.

Thank you for this idea. This will solve my storage problem perfectly and neatly. Right now I have big black bins stashed here and there that must go.
