I've been sleeping in my hammocks for a few nights now and starting to get used to them (as opposed to being a "new" thing). First, i'm enjoying them quite a bit. I'm less restless than i am in a bed.
I tried the Brazilian first. I'm a side-sleeper, and found it to feel too hard. I switched to the Mayan and had a much better time. The Mayan eats buttons though, when they inevitably get caught in the holes, but covering the hammock with a blanket first removes some of that stretchy comfort. Lying on my back seems great on either though. A friend, who has been sleeping here a lot lately, like's the Brazilian much more. He half-jokingly is afraid of the holes on the Mayan, saying one rip and the whole thing will fall apart.
Rocking the hammock is interesting. At first it was a strange sensation, because if my bed was a swinging, that would be pretty strange. After that initial feeling though, i'm liking the soft sway. Swinging a lot though, causes the rope to "jump" in the eye bolt from spot to spot, which i'm afraid isn't good for it.
When i lie on my back, a pillow is not required, or even wanted. When i sleep on my side, i need it, similar to a bed.
One thing i haven't figured out yet, is that one side of the hammock seems higher than the other.
