Cool A Lot of Free Time and an Upcoming show

Hey, guys and gals! It's been a while since I've visited the good ol' HF.

Due to the gov't shutdown, I have found myself with a lot of time on my hands. Thankfully, I have had a few odd jobs to supplement the bank with.

I have a table at an upcoming gun show where I had planned on selling my fire starters(see link in my signature), but after showing a hammock to a friend and seeing the lights come on, I think I may try to sell some hammocks as well. She was totally sold from the get go, and said I MUST show this to her husband.

Note: I showed her my tablecloth hammock w/ whoopie slings

Hammocks and firestarters are not exactly regulars at a gun shows at least in Las Cruces, NM, so I wanted to see if you all had any suggestions on how to get these bad boys (hammocks) selling like hot cakes.

I made a 1/4 scale model hammock with mini-whoopie slings and paracord ridgeline

Now I need to make a table top stand for it.

I figured that with all the color and size options, I would just have people submit custom orders, and I would fill them once I have the supplies.

I am going to have some nice prints made of my past camping trips to show a hammock in its true element.

I would also like to have hammockforums info and possible cards as well.

What else do you think I should have?

I think you will do just fine. A lot of preppers frequent the gun shows, so a hammock is perfect for a bug out bag.

Maybe you could have a few ready to go in a popular color or those impulse buys?

Thanks, Shelly. I was thinking about doing that, and with your nudge, I think I'll go ahead and make a few.

Mini Turtle dog stand for the table top stand would work well.

If you can have the space, a full-up TD stand will probably sell more folks than just a tabletop display. Most folks think, hammock...yeah, one of those rope thingies in the back yard...not bad for lounging in, but I don't know how comfy it'd be to sleep in... Having something that they could actually climb into at the show and feel how comfortable it is might help boost sales.

Otherwise, I also recommend having neutral-colored hammocks and suspension there. A tarp or two (or, for the prepper-type folks, a poncho/tarp or two, especially the GI-style ponchos) might help, too, even if it's just a graphic of one that you put together to show how easy it is to stay dry in an hammock.

But...before associating Hammock Forums with your business, make sure you check with a mod. Using HF imagery or anything else in commercial stuff is against the ToS unless you have permission.

Hope it goes well for you!

    All Great Suggestions!

As for the turtledog stand, I'm thinking about making something that I can extend to show how awesome whoopie slings are.

    I ordered 3-60"x126"(black,olive,&chocolate) and 1-90"x132"(black) tablecloths.

Do those of you that have a larger table cloth recommend cutting down the width? 90" seems pretty wide.

FLRider: I was already contacted by one of the moderators about associating with HF. I think once they've made a purchase, I'll just refer them to the forum as a great resource.

You could also go with one of these stands. I've seen some plans for them here on the forums before. You could go with either a scaled down version for the tabletop, or the full scale type, and run a ridgeline and setup your whole kit (tarp, bugnet, etc...) so they can see what possibilities hammocks open up
