    First thread injecter

Too many members on here are making really nice stuff and i want in!
My wife has a older singer but dont really want me to touch it so she agreed to teach me all the basics if i got my own machine.
Being on a tight budget i shopped around for about a week and decided on the one in the link below.
For all you experianced crafters and masters of the injecter, could you please take a look at it and offer any tips for a new user.
I Allready ordered this one and could use any tips that you guys or gals might offer...:confuse

I'd personally look in my local Craigslist, Bookoo, and Facebook seller groups for an older (pre-90s/pre-plastic parts) $50 Singer. Be patient. Took me a few months to find mine, but I love it.

For making outdoor gear, you don't need much in the way of bells and whistles... My machine has a setting to move the needle left, right, or center (handy for making narrow hems), a couple different widths of bar tacking, and a dial that adjusts the stitch length. I also have a button to hold in to run it backwards, but I think that's pretty standard.

The best tip I have is listen to what the wife has to teach. The only things I have to add is to use quality thread and a sharp point needle (and change it often).

+1 - I have two TIs, one is just a straight stitch Singer and works wonderful for hammock DIY. The other is a brother with a bizzilon stitches that never will be used. If your wife has an old Singer, trader her... you wont need all those fancy items.

Personally I wouldn't touch that ebay machine. Too cgheap to be any good for a computorized machine. Probqably too light to be steady and you have too many stitches you will never ever use for gear making. For less money you should be able to find a used vintage machine.
Even if you get it tuned up you have have a better machine for what you want to do. For suggestions on how to shop for a vintage machine, see my "guidelines" thread in my sig. Others seem to have found it helpful.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Ramblinrev's guidelines are very useful. When I was shopping for a machine I deliberately went out and bought an older machine. It has a half dozen useful stitches and having all metal parts means it's robust enough to last a long time. Try a local sewing machine shop. They may sell older machines that often comes with a warranty and free lessons.

I found just getting scrap materials and foolimng around with the machine was helpful. Doing this gives you the feel of the machine, and since you have your wife to help you, you should be in fine form in no time. Get good at using just a straight stitch. It's what you'll use most often.
