My first hammock was a Hennessy. They came with 42" long polyester tree huggers. Specifically, my Explorer Deluxe came with 2" wide straps, though I understand that other models may come with different widths.
I found the length often inadequate. At first, I extended them with rope.
Then I supplemented them with 1.5" wide, much longer (106"!) ones. Problem is, the new longer ones are nylon, which stretches quite a bit (too much for my preference).
SO --- I suggest that:
1) Stick with polyester straps. Am told that these stretch less than nylon or polypropylene.
2) Trees are our friends! We need to be good to them. I urge you to use the widest tree huggers you can tolerate. For me, that means 1.5"-2" wide straps. My shorter straps are 2" and the longer ones are 1.5".
3) You can get good 2" straps from Hennessy here. You can get good 1.5" straps from Arrowhead here. Many sources for 1" polyester straps.
