New Guy from Minnesota

As a recent transplant to Minnesota (from Tennessee of all places), I'm still berating myself for having taken so long to move to somewhere where I could truly enjoy the outdoors.

Recently spent 3 days in the BWCAW (around Basswood Lake) hanging in a hammock (for the first time), and was instantly hooked on hammock camping. Hundreds of man hours worth of youtube videos later (mostly Shug and Fronkey), I figured I should register and actually start to learn about this new addiction I have.

If I'm not working, I'm either outdoors with my GSD, or running around Duluth and the surrounding areas with my camera trying to photograph everything that catches my eye.

I hope to learn a lot while here, and eventually be able to contribute.

I lived in Arlington, just outside Memphis, for quite a few number of years. I'm enjoying the Minnesota summer much more than I ever enjoyed the Arkansas / Tennessee summers. :-)

Welcome, and consider doing The Frozen Butt Hang if you think you might like MN winters as well as the summer! I'm not so bold, I hang out on the deck in case I need to get warm. 9 is as cold as I've stayed out, but that's nothing. I do love the skeeter relief of winter camping.

Thanks SteveJJ... I lived in Alaska for a stretch so as far as Minnesota winters go, I say "Bring it". :-)

How often do these group hangs occur?

Welcome to the group! I was going to ask how you couldn't enjoy the outdoors in TN, and then I saw you used to live in west TN. I hope you like cold weather and ice fishing.

Welcome to the group! A bunch of us just went to the Superior Hiking Trail last weekend. It's a popular spot for forum members. We're usually in Duluth every Christmas, and occasionally in the summer as well. If the frozen butt hang happens this year, I'm hoping to make it. Hopefully we'll see you on the trail one day.
