    Aaand it begins

Before I even started sewing, I oiled up the machine and cleaned out the shuttle race (pic of lint included ). I did a tiny bit more practicing on some cotton after oiling up the thread injector, just to make sure I had the hemming down, and to soak up any little bit of oil that may have worked its way down.

Next came the moment of truth. I sat down, brought the first corner of one of the long ends and went at it. I started going pretty slow, because I was afraid I would mess up. Ironically enough, that was what made me mess up a little, so the stitching isn't completely straight and the hem isn't totally even all the way across. It wasn't a major difference, but if you really try, you can see it. After that was finished (seemed like it took forever), I started on the 2nd long side. Man did this go by faster! I stopped worrying about messing up, and everything seemed to come together. The stitching came out mostly straight, and the hem was almost even the entire length. YAY, the hard parts were done.

I really had no problems with the channels on the short ends, and they were done in a few min each.

TL;DR Started out hesitant, gained confidence, finished hammock blank.

Pics from first to last: lint from shuttle race, stitching on first side, stitching on 2nd side, stitching at corner, sewn channel, hammock blank laying out to be admired.

I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.

It's not peer pressure, it's just your turn.

I didn't want to be the most recent 3 posts in my thread, but my hammock has been done for a couple days now. I'm naturally assuming you folks want pics?

    My 1.1 is here!

    Very much so
I'm looking at making a hammock in the exact same way, even with the same materials and ammounts. Be nice to see how it ended up.

So when I took these pictures it was before I trimmed my whipping and when I was using my adjustable RL to find the sweet spot. Since then I have trimmed the whipping and made a new 109" RL out of zing-it.

The final weight, with UCR's and RL is 263g, or roughly 9.27oz.

    Good job!
Now you have the machine and skill to make a LOT of stuff you probably don't realize you need!

I think my next project may be using some of the scrap 1.1 to make a bishop bag

Looks good. I especially like that you work on your projects right on top of the good china. The thread injector has caused a bit of a role reversal in our house. We have a couple rental properties we manage. My wife's over at the property swinging a hammer to fix things while I'm at home hemming curtains for the new tenants. I haven't made a bishop bag yet but a couple stuff sacks that turned out really well.

It isn't anything special, the lines aren't straight, but it works perfectly! And my nalgene has gone missing (haven't used it in ages as it is one of the old ones from before they went bpa free), so for size comparison I had to put it next to a 2L bottle. Now, that is an 11' hammock, with suspension, in a bishop bag, and still comes out to 278g, ~9.8oz

Ggreaves, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, even if it is on top of the china
