I would put in a mesh bag then in a front loader machine just in case.

If possible, I would put it in a front loader.

I always wash my hammocks by hand. I put a few inches of warm water in the bath tub, add a little laundry detergent, swirl things around, and then let it soak for 15-20 minutes, agitating occasionally. Finally, rinse the hammock for a couple of minutes and hang up to drip dry.

That's my method too. If there is some hiker funk on the hammock, a little vinegar works wonders; not too much, a dab will do ya.

Use a little vinegar in the rinse water. About 1/2 cup for 15 gallons of water. Let it soak for about 10 minutes and then rinse again. Works great for my wet suit, booties, gloves, etc!!
