Tree strap questions (Length, eye size, etc)

I'm looking at making a strapworks.com order for some straps

So far I'm looking at 2 pre-made 1" polyester slings 10ft length with a 1" eye on both ends. That's about $20 shipped.

It occured to me that I might should ask what strap lengths you guys are using. Is 10' about right? too long? too short?

You guys ordering a 1" eye? Or are you just ordering the webbing and making your own?

I got mine from harbor freight. They are 1"x12ft with a 1" eye on one side and about a 3" eye on the other side. I've only really used them once, yesterday was my first hang ever, but tried it with both eyes. I preferred the 1" side. Seemed like I could get a tighter grip on the tree initially.

As for length, the trees were fairly close together and about 18" or so in diameter. Once around the tree worked fine. Twice around and through the eye and they were to short. Keep that in mind when ordering your length.

    How this helped a little.

6-7ft is typical, unless you need to hang from very large diameter tree's (greater then 2 ft).

Eye size of 2" is probably going to do you better, from ease of use stand point, unless you're using hardware like dutch clips or a carabiner.

is it common to just do one wrap around the tree through the loop, or do you guys like to do two or more wraps?

I like to go around tree at least twice if I can this really takes the tension off
    the connecting hardware.

I am not sure when you would need a loop on each end. That would save you
    4 dollars.

I go around once and through the loop. I have no hardware on my suspension.

I don't see how going around twice reduces strain on your hardware. Maybe I'm picturing it wrong? It'll reduce the pressure on the tree though.

One instance is if your tree strap is too short and you want to add an extender.

I only tried going sound twice as a means to take some of the extra webbing up off the ground. I could see using 2-3 wraps around a smaller tree. But I'm a big guy too.

My straps came with a loop on each end. But as I said they were HF locking straps. Guessing the larger ends are some sort of hand pull. The shorter loop is where I removed the hook. I wouldn't pay extra for 2 sets of eyes. And 2" would probably be perfect based on the 2 sizes on my straps.

I only used this once and can already see the usefulness of slings. I used a MSH with the ENO biner as the toggle. It worked fine but as a total rookie slings would have been a lot easier to adjust back and forth for sag and general noob setup issues.

I make all our straps 9' long, with a 2.5'' eye. I would rather carry the extra few feet of strap on each trip then have to make due with a subpar hanging spot because my straps were too short.
