    Wool Blanket???

Has anyone used a wool blanket as top insulation? Im curios to know how well a wool blanket would work in a hammock setup if it would be useful at all or no. -Matt

I still posess a couple of Hudson Bay trading blankets,,wool,,that I have had for many years,,both are maybe 35 yrs old and mint,,but will burn you up when you use them as they are 100% wool and a lot heavier than my TQ's. Nothing like the warmth of down as well as wool,,but for packing,,I leave the wool at home.

I use a wool blanket, however, it is very heavy and thick, impervious to weather.
I live in a subarctic zone part of the year, so I have to be able to depend on my gear to get me though anything.

Living in Florida, there are a lot better materials available for warmth in your hammock. Wool does absorb, perspiration and moisture from the air. I do not know how it would work in Florida even for car camping. I would be inclined to use silk instead, but then I have no idea about your fine state, I have only been there once in the month of May, it was too warm and humid for this Northern Girl! Interesting snakes though.

Any top insulation will work with any hammock. I've used a wool blanket before while car camping. It's more important to have good bottom insulation as you'll lose more heat from your back.

How you feel in the hammock is a different question. Looks like you want to know which hammock would be more comfortable either a gathered end or a bridge?

I use a wool blanket in a WBBB any time temps dip down to low 60's or below, otherwise it's a woobie that does TQ duty.

The wool blanket also serves as the dog blanket in the hammock. Put it down before the mutts hop in, say like right now when the little guy is totally crashed out.

UQ setup is an AHE Jarbidge or New River depending on temps.

Have not tried a Ridge Runner, can't comment, but happy with the WBBB. Will be trying out an XLC soon, so that is sort of like a traveller when stripped down.

Huh? Does it matter if you prefer a wool blanket in a Blackbird, Traveler, or Ridgerunner? What if it's non of the above?

I just like to have gear that can go to the ground and still keep me toasty if something should happen to my hammock. Its just me being paranoid hahaha i was just curios how one would work in a hammock.
