I use both. The choice is trip dependent. There are tradeoffs with either choice. Same with all my gear.

Nothing worse than the zipper getting stuck in the middle of the night when trying to zip or unzip... then fighting to get it free without ripping the bag.

I switched to quilts...much more comfortable for me.

I have used bags exclusively for years. Never occurred to me that they're difficult to use in a hammock...it's what I had, I figured out how to use it.

That said, I now am the proud owner of a WL TQ/UQ set. I'll be learning which I prefer more over the next few months.

I think the reason I've had the success that I've had thus far with my HHSS setup is partially due to the fact that I use a synthetic sleeping bag in the hammock along with the HHSS...so the insulation in the sleeping bag beneath me, while compressed, is still somewhat beneficial, and I get no drafts at all that way.

Still a sleeping bag for me. Zipping myself in and pulling that thick, plush down hood over my head when it's cold and windy is pure bliss

Still a bag, but for those that hate zippers it might be another option!

There's also an extra wide quilt to wrap yourself in...

being a warm sleeper, the 20 degree UQ with a full 20 degree sleeping bag on top of me makes me sweat all night. And the head spot sticks up in my face, which makes it annoying. Next trip out i'm going to try the Hill People Gear Mountain Serape i've got as you can zip up the bottom 1/4 of it, it's probably around a 40-45 degree rating depening on your clothing.

I use both, and like both. I've had no problems with my sleeping bag as it is a Montbell with a 3/4 zip, and I just use it like a sewn footbox quilt. If I end getting unusually cold, I will sometimes zip it up a bit.

    Cheers
