    Pad and auto-shade?

    Hello everyone,
My question is what should I put into the hammock first the pad or sun-shade. Lie on the sun-shade and pad under me or the other way around ?
    I just bought from Wal-Mart CCP 24"X72"
and the sun-shade is 27"x67" I don't have the money right now for and UQ so let's not go there.
I am willing to try the pad and sun-shade route and see if this works out for me. I will be doing a Thru-Hike of the AT next year and want to go with a hammock.
The two hammock's I am trying to decide on are the ENO DN or the Hennessey.
I thank you for your help and time.

I would just go with the pad first and skip the sun-shade. Could get un-wanted condensation)))))
    Carry forth.

My first cold weather hang I did the pad and the auto shade on top using a sleeping bag in an HH and was dang warm. Temps were high 30s and windy. Bulky way to go but dead cheap and I wasn't hiking with it.

I'm with that Shug guy.. Try just the pad first. You'll be surprised how low they can take you.

Wonder how much more the Reflectix adds but until I can easily spend on the TQ/UQ, I'll continue using a pad but a less bulky one and add Reflectix for the knees down, per the Shug's suggestion.

I found myself using the shade more than the pad due to its flexibility. I was also using a bag w/a goretex bivy though.

I made a pad out of 18 inch wide Reflectix. I cut 2 pieces 6 ft long and then used metal tape to make a 2 layer pad. I have used it down to 40 degrees and it was plenty warm with a 10 degree bag. I thought that the pad was superfluous until I tried sleeping without it one 45 degree night. My backside was cold and I eventually had to go get my pad so I could stay warm enough.

I have 2 blow up sleeping pads, 2 and 3 inch thick, that are pretty nice but I prefer the El Cheapo Reflectix one I made when I sleep in my hammock. The packed size is only a little bit larger but I don't have to be careful with it since it only costs a few bucks and 5 minutes to make.

I would try just the ccf first and see if it is enough. If it is enough, you don't need the sunshade. The sunshade is very effective. So effective that condensation will happen if you use it when it isn't needed. Some people have more issues with condensation than others in general too. I don't have that problem.
In the extreme winter temps, I use the sunshade, ccf and then a garlington insulator system.

    As an aside:
My sunshade has different hues on each of the reflective sides. One is a silver and the other has a goldish hue. Just my anecdotal experience, the silver side up was warmer.
