    Simply Light Design Asym Tarp

I cant justify a Cubin tarp so I opted to down size and get an asym tarp to save some weight. Few people make them so when I found SLD I gave them a go. First and foremost Jared, owner/designer, of SLD answered all of my emails with in an hour or so. When the order was made so was the tarp...it shipped with in three days, that's unheard of by some tarp makers! Unfortunately when it arrived it was "asymed" in the opposite direction from how I lay...oops. It wasn't an option as to how one lays when ordering but it is now . I mailed it back and Jared bent over backwards to make me happy and shipped out a new one right away. The stitching is spot on and the line locks are a nice touch. The simple/small D-rings for the ridge line tie outs are perfect. The tarp works best with a continual ridge line and there is room for a trekking pole tip to be inserted behind the line lock for porch mode. I haven't weighed it yet but I'm guessing under 10 ounces with lines. That's about 5+ less than my currant set up. Over all it is a simple tarp, just what I wanted but the customer service was the best I've seen in a long time. I will purchase from Simply Light Design again.

just got the mountain laurel designs asym tarp myself, made of spinntex with cuben reinforcements. good little fair weather tarp. stayed dry in an unexpected rainstorm on my last trip to the Old Loggers path.

Sounds like you got a solid tarp yourself!

I'm curious why this tarp works best with a CRL since I have a DIY asym tarp that works very well with separate RL's?

i think as with most asym tarps the center tends to droop a bit without a CRL. i have used them both ways but prefer to have a ridge line on mine. But either way it works ymmv.

I've got a custom 4 season coming from Jared with a few bells and whistles added. If it is anything like the rest of the gear I have gotten from him the tarp will be pure awesomeness. Also we emailed last week about what I was wanting, ordered Friday evening and got shipping info today. Nothing but the best from Jared.
