Ridgerunner and cloudburst in the Boundary Waters

Mid August trip to the Boundary waters canoe area. Absolute gorgeous weather and the first real trip for my hammock. Picture shows the cloudburst with guylines made in the ^Shane^ style.

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=25052

--Stakes used are MSR groundhog, a heavy but solid stake
--Cloudburst is suspended using Dutch Stingerz.
--The Ridgerunner is suspended using the Ti Dutch clips

Insulation was a down sleeping bag for this trip. Plenty warm since overnight lows were probably only lower 60s.

Simply amazing comfort. Feel like I had plenty of room to spread the legs out and move them during the night. Saddlebags were used to store light, book, extra layer.

Only negative -- The cloudburst needs a fair amount of space on either side of the hammock, you need to be sure the ridgerunner is centered under the tarp when weighted. The side guyouts are pretty much essential, otherwise the sides of the tarp are really close to the head spreader bar ends. I found the best thing was to forego a stake for the side guyouts and just extend to a nearby tree, wrap around, and loop a branch.

Beautiful setup and location. Where in the BWCA did you go in, how many nights?

    Cloudburst looks amazing!

That Cloudburst looks simply amazing -- so long as you get those side tie-outs well deployed.

I'm using my huge HH Hex fly with my new WBRR. Haven't yet tested it in rain, but the HUGEness of the fly portends good results.

But my, my, my -- the Cloudburst looks like an elegant solution.

I wouldn't worry about the spreader bars rubbing against the silnylon of the tarp...the silnylong is very abusive stuff. If you have a cuben tarp,,now that is a different story,,have to keep from rubbing it,,,if you want,,go to Arrowhead,,and get their rubber bumpers to install for 2 bucks,,works like a charm. Scroll to the bottom of the page for description.

Thanks for the kind words. My group of 4 put in on Round Lake just south of the gunflint trail as it curves around Gunflint Lake. We travelled west to Gabimichigami Lake, looped around south to Little Saganaga Lake and hopped little lakes back to Tuscarora Lake. We were in for 4 nights.
